Domain Name Quick Check HERE!       ~

Domain Names

A domain name is your website's address. The domain name for this site is LLTNetServices.com. In the beginning there was only one domain registrar, Network Solutions. Now there are thousands. Prices can be as low as $3. per year for bulk registrations, all the way up to $35. per year for an individual domain name.

We charge $20. per year and do all the work for you. If you're not ready to build a website we will park your domain name at no extra charge for as long as you like.

Choosing a Domain Name

It's best to choose a domain name that is easy to remember and related to your company or organization. For example, if I owned a company named South Side Widgets, I would want to register the domain name SouthSideWidgets.com. Another good domain name would be widgets.com. As long as it's not already taken I may register and use it.

Here are some quick facts about domain names:

Anyone can register a domain name as long as it's available.
Domain registration is usually charged annually.
You can have as many domains as you want.
More than one domain name can point to the same website.
It is not necessary to have a website in order to register domain names. Domain names can be "parked" until you are ready to use them.
You can't really own a domain name. It must be renewed each year. Non-payment will cause you to forfeit your domain name.
The part of the domain name to the right of the "dot" is called the top level domain. Examples: .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, .biz, .edu, .gov.
Your domain registrar probably offers website hosting also, but it is not required that you use their hosting service. Domain registration and web hosting are two different things.
You can have email addresses associated with your domain name. Example: John@MyDomainName.com. This is done at the web hosting level.

Question: If my domain registrar and my web host are different how does my domain name send people to my website?

Answer: Through what are called DNS or Domain Name Servers. Sometimes it's simply called Name Servers. Your web host will provide you with the DNS so that you can input that information with your domain registrar. This will tell web browsers that request your domain name where your website files are located and send them there.
