Without
the ability to link web pages together the
World Wide Web would be a very difficult place
to navigate. Imagine if you had to type the
address to every page you visited.
A link
can be created from any picture or line of
text.
Links
can be to other pages on your website
or they may point to websites and files
on other servers (off-site links). When
building your website you must determine how
many pages or links you need.
Sometimes
it's useful to have a "Links" page.
This is a page on your site with links to other
websites you think your visitors might find
interesting or helpful. Perhaps you would want
to trade links with another website. This helps
generate traffic for both sites.
With
whom would you want to trade links? Let's suppose
you sell musical instruments. You might request
a link exchange with a website that sells sheet
music. The two are related but not competing
businesses. It would be mutually beneficial
for a link trade in this instance. Email the
site owner/operator to request a link exchange.
